About Us

Our Story

Almanara is privately owned and operated by the Giovando family. In 2005, the family began developing what would become a truly unique coastal retreat located on the white sands of Diani Beach.

With a vision to create something truly special, the family set out to design a collection of private villas that blend contemporary luxury with traditional African character. Almanara opened its doors in 2007 with six exclusive villas, offering a seamless balance of world-class service and a home-away-from-home atmosphere.

In 2015, the property launched Casa Bella an exclusive boutique hotel, bringing a new level of elegance and intimacy to the experience. In 2024, three new villas were added to create “The Residence by Almanara” offering a more private and contemporary expression of the Almanara experience—while remaining rooted in the genuine hospitality and personal touch that defines us.

Gemma & Leo Giovando

Almanara has been shaped and guided by Leandro and Gemma Giovando, who have been closely involved in its development from the very beginning. What began as a family vision has grown into a refined and trusted brand, with every detail carefully considered under their direction.

Today, they continue to lead the operations across all Almanara properties, ensuring the guest experience remains personal, seamless, and true to the spirit in which it was created.

Along with their two sons, they split their time between Kenya and the UK.
